Singapore Marks Deepavali With Outreach to Migrant Workers

Coordinated efforts by ACE with IIM alumni plus Krsna’s Free Meals deliver festivities with material support for thousands.

  • About 600 migrant workers and domestic helpers joined a Sunday celebration at Gardens by the Bay featuring cultural performances, games and a lamp-lighting ceremony.
  • Minister of State for Manpower Dinesh Vasu Dash attended, highlighting appreciation for workers’ contributions as Singapore observes its 60th year of independence.
  • ACE organised the event with the IIM Alumni Singapore and invited employers to bring workers, with outreach also extended to domestic helpers via Brahm Centre and Passion To Serve.
  • Krsna’s Free Meals scheduled a Deepavali fiesta on the public holiday in Little India for more than 5,000 workers, serving hot briyani and distributing care packs that include water bottles.
  • The charity, founded by Latha Govindasamy and family, has scaled from about 80 to roughly 4,000 meals daily and reports around 5.5 million meals served to date, with Minister Dinesh set to help hand out care packs.
