Singapore Launches First Victory-Class Multi-Role Combat Vessel "Victory"

The launch signals a shift to a modular mothership concept that extends naval reach through unmanned systems.

Overview

  • Following the Benoi Shipyard launch, Victory will move to Gul Yard for outfitting, combat-systems integration and sea trials, with a pioneer crew of fewer than 100 beginning training.
  • Six vessels will be delivered progressively from 2028 to replace the RSN’s missile corvettes in service since 1989, retaining the legacy names and pennant numbers.
  • Designed as a hub for unmanned aerial, surface and underwater vehicles, the class enables wider-area surveillance and operations typically requiring multiple manned ships.
  • Key attributes include a 150m hull of about 8,000 tonnes, range beyond 7,000 nautical miles, endurance over 21 days, and systems such as the Strales 76mm guided gun and ASTER surface-to-air missiles.
  • The ships feature advanced automation for smaller crews and the RSN’s first electric propulsion generating about 30MW, with design and build led by ST Engineering alongside DSTA, DSO and partners including Saab Kockums and Odense Maritime Technology using digital twinning.
