Singapore, China Sign MOUs as Li Qiang Visits, Elevating Green, Digital, Maritime Ties

Overview

  • Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Premier Li Qiang met in Singapore on Oct 25 and witnessed the exchange of eight MOUs spanning green development, the digital economy, maritime connectivity, emergency management, food safety, ICT and investment facilitation.
  • Singapore and China established a national Green and Digital Shipping Corridor, building on Tianjin and Shandong pilots to advance decarbonisation, boost port and supply‑chain efficiency and align technologies and standards, with the MOU signed on Oct 19.
  • Both sides publicly affirmed support for free trade and economic globalisation while rejecting unilateralism and protectionism, framing their cooperation within a rules‑based order.
  • A joint Third Country Training Programme will train ASEAN and Timor‑Leste officials in clean energy transition, sustainable urban development, climate resilience and support for the ASEAN Power Grid.
  • The trip is the first by a Chinese premier to Singapore since 2018 and marks 35 years of ties, with Li proceeding to Kuala Lumpur for regional leaders’ meetings as Wong said he looks forward to the CAFTA 3.0 upgrade being signed at the summit.
