Sindoor Flyover Inaugurated in Mumbai, Restoring Key East-West Link

The four-lane, 328-metre Sindoor Flyover has cleared load tests with final clearance from rail authorities in place

Overview

  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the 10 AM inauguration ceremony with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar and Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar in attendance.
  • The former Carnac Bridge was rechristened Sindoor Flyover to honour Operation Sindoor and remove its colonial-era name.
  • Completed on June 10, the structure spans 328 metres and features two 550-tonne steel girders mounted on reinforced concrete piers with 230 metres of approach roads.
  • The bridge has secured stability certification, safety clearance and a No Objection Certificate from Central Railway after rigorous testing.
  • Traffic will begin at 3 PM today, restoring a critical east-west corridor in South Mumbai and easing congestion on P D’Mello Road and surrounding routes.
