Sindh's 12-Day HPV Drive Logs 600,000 Shots in Five Days as Cyber Case Targets Misinformation

Officials report strong early turnout during Pakistan’s first multi-region HPV rollout.

Overview

  • Running September 15–27, the Sindh campaign offers free HPV vaccination to 4.1 million girls aged 9–14 across schools, outreach sites and health facilities.
  • Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho said more than 600,000 girls were vaccinated in the first five days, including outreach at a Karachi Press Club camp.
  • The Government of Sindh has filed a complaint under the Cyber Crime Act over false safety claims on social media and urged political and religious backing.
  • The drive is coordinated with EPI, WHO, UNICEF and partners, and similar efforts are underway in Punjab, Islamabad Capital Territory and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Officials noted HPV is now included in EPI’s free schedule of 13 vaccines, and the minister has asked the prime minister to consider local HPV vaccine production.
