Sindh Sets 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Closing Times Under Fuel-Saving Rules

The province is moving to cut fuel use during a regional supply crunch.

Overview

  • The Home Department notification, issued Friday, takes effect at once with shops and malls closing 8 p.m. outside divisional headquarters and 9 p.m. in those cities throughout the week.
  • Hotels and restaurants may serve dinner from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and takeaway and home delivery can continue beyond dining hours.
  • Wedding halls and banquets are limited to events between 8 p.m. and midnight, and commissioners with Sindh Police will enforce the new schedule.
  • Essential services are exempt, including tandoors, bakeries, milk and dairy shops, pharmacies, laboratories, clinics, hospitals and petrol pumps.
  • Sindh’s timetable follows a federal push for energy savings but departs from the nationwide 8 p.m. cutoff by allowing 9 p.m. trading in divisional headquarters after a review earlier in the week led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
