Sindh Forms Multi-Agency JIT to Probe Mir Raza Murder

The move follows a judicial commission ruling that the police probe was an 'epic failure' reclassifying the death as murder.

Overview

  • The Sindh government formed a joint investigation team on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, appointing DIG Irfan Ali Baloch to lead a panel that includes representatives from the ISI, IB, Pakistan Rangers Sindh and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
  • Provincial authorities have asked the federal interior ministry to nominate a Grade-20 or higher Federal Investigation Agency officer to head a separate, parallel inquiry that will also include DIG Baloch and DIG Naeem Ahmed Shaikh.
  • A one-member review under Additional IGP Zulfiqar Ali Larik has been ordered to examine the roles and performance of police officers named in the judicial commission’s report, with DIG Baloch assigned to assist that review.
  • The provincial cabinet subcommittee recommended removing medico-legal officer Dr Usama Sheikh from his post and sending him for two years of training after the commission found flaws in the initial post-mortem and forensic handling.
  • The new inquiries are tasked with probing alleged crime-scene tampering, including a focused investigation into Inspector Ghaus’s reported role in burning parts of the scene, and must report findings and recommendations to the Sindh IGP.
