Simpa Shuts Campana Motorcycle Plant, Lays Off 50 as Production Moves to Pilar

The company attributes the decision to a production overhaul driven by partners concentrating certain models in their home factories.

Overview

  • Grupo Simpa confirmed the permanent closure of its Campana assembly site and said all national manufacturing will be consolidated at its Pilar complex.
  • Fifty workers were dismissed; the company said they will receive legally mandated severance and training, with no relocation to Pilar.
  • The metalworkers union UOM says the shutdown was abrupt without prior notice, alleging the firm skipped the preventive crisis process and ignored a conciliation order.
  • Dismissed employees and delegates mounted protests and roadblocks outside the Campana facility on Ruta 9, as unions sought intervention from labor authorities.
  • The Campana plant, opened in 2013, assembled KTM, Husqvarna and CFMoto with capacity near 200 units per day under low-integration IKD, while Pilar opened in 2022 to assemble Royal Enfield and Aprilia after a reported US$35 million investment.
