Overview

  • In October 2024 a surge of the Teesta River submerged homes in Laltongbasti and Chamkandangi, forcing residents into temporary shelters.
  • Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee officially named the new Majuha Basti settlement Teestapally and allotted each family about three decimals of land.
  • Affected families have received land titles and been enrolled in the Banglar Bari project, with the first housing assistance installment expected by June.
  • Basic amenities including water and electricity are operational and some families have already begun building homes using external loans.
