Overview

• Detachment 201’s inaugural cohort includes Shyam Sankar of Palantir, Andrew “Boz” Bosworth of Meta, Kevin Weil of OpenAI and Bob McGrew, formerly of OpenAI, all joining the Army Reserve as lieutenant colonels.
• The tech reservists will commit a minimum of 120 hours per year without basic training requirements while retaining flexibility to work remotely.
• Their projects span training soldiers on AI-powered systems, enhancing data analytics capabilities and advising on the procurement of commercial technology.
• The unit forms part of the Army Transformation Initiative and draws on lessons from Ukraine’s use of drones, robotics and AI in defense.
• Policies fire-wall the executives from projects involving their civilian employers and task them with recruiting additional private-sector tech talent for the military.
