Silicon Ranch to Build 100-MW Orangeburg Solar Farm to Power Meta’s First South Carolina Data Center

Central Electric will buy the power, with Aiken Electric serving the site under a 2027 in-service timeline.

Overview

  • Silicon Ranch will fund, build, own, and operate the Orangeburg County facility in coordination with Santee Cooper, the system balancing authority.
  • Central Electric Power Cooperative will purchase the plant’s output for its 19 member cooperatives, while Aiken Electric Cooperative will serve the Meta site.
  • Both the solar farm and the data center target commercial operation in 2027, with data center construction already underway near Graniteville’s Sage Mill Industrial Park.
  • The project marks the fourth collaboration between Silicon Ranch and Central and the 18th in the Silicon Ranch–Meta partnership, which exceeds 1.5 GW and $2.5 billion in investments.
  • Silicon Ranch estimates a capital investment above $100 million and more than $8 million in new local tax revenue, with land managed under its Regenerative Energy practices and equipment largely sourced in the U.S.
