Silchar’s Gammon Bridge Reopens with 40-Tonne Load Limit

  • The Cachar district administration has imposed a 40-tonne weight cap effective July 19 for all vehicles crossing the structure.
  • Checkpoints at Digarkhal (NH-06) and Dolu (NH-27) will operate round the clock under police, transport officers and magistrates to monitor compliance.
  • A newly formed task force will conduct regular structural inspections and levy penalties on violators to prevent overloading.
  • Prefabricated Bailey bridge construction over the Harang River will accelerate from July 20 to maintain regional connectivity during repairs.
