Significant Increase in Pflegegeld Recipients in Northern Germany

New data reveals a sharp rise in Pflegegeld recipients in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg between 2021 and 2023.

In Schleswig-Holstein, 81,100 individuals received Pflegegeld in 2023, marking an 18% increase compared to 2021.
In Hamburg, 46,100 people received Pflegegeld in 2023, reflecting a 12% rise over the same period.
The statistics include only those cared for by family members or volunteers, excluding recipients of professional or institutional care services.
More than half of Pflegegeld recipients in both regions were classified under Pflegegrad 2, with smaller percentages in higher care grades.
