Significant Drop in Youth Alcohol Poisoning Cases in Bavaria and Saxony

DAK reports a notable decrease in hospitalizations for alcohol intoxication among young people in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Bavaria saw a 17% decline in alcohol poisoning cases among youths aged 10 to 19, with 1,643 cases in 2023.
The most significant reduction in Bavaria was among 15- to 19-year-old boys, with a 21% decrease from the previous year.
In Saxony, the number of youths hospitalized for alcohol intoxication fell by 10% to 884, the lowest since 2019.
The decrease in cases is attributed partly to successful prevention campaigns, such as 'bunt statt blau,' which will continue in 2024.
Despite the positive trend, health officials emphasize that excessive drinking remains a concern among children and teenagers.
