Overview

• Deutsche Bahn reported a blaze at the Gerwisch electronic signal box around 10:30 a.m., later extinguished after destroying large parts of the technology and causing damage in the lower single-digit millions.
• The Biederitz-Möser route is closed until further notice, RB40 and RE1 trains are being rerouted, and freight traffic is currently being held back.
• ICE and IC services between Berlin and Magdeburg are being diverted, with scheduled stops in Potsdam and Brandenburg canceled.
• A fire watch remains on site through Wednesday, and forensic work is expected to start then with the Bundespolizei taking over the case.
• Local authorities warned nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed because of heavy smoke, and seven fire vehicles with more than 30 personnel responded.
