Sierra Space, Lockheed Martin, L3Harris Secure $2.5B SDA Contracts for Missile-Tracking Satellites
The three firms will construct 54 satellites for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, marking Sierra Space's first major military satellite contract.
- Sierra Space, Lockheed Martin, and L3Harris have been awarded contracts by the Space Development Agency (SDA) to build 54 satellites for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, a network of low-Earth orbit satellites providing missile warning, tracking, and defense capabilities.
- Each firm will construct 18 satellites for the Tranche 2 (T2) Tracking Layer, with 48 satellites equipped with a wide field-of-view infrared sensor for missile warning and tracking, and six satellites with fire control-quality infrared sensors for missile defense.
- The contracts are collectively worth $2.5 billion, with L3Harris receiving $919 million, Lockheed Martin $890 million, and Sierra Space $740 million.
- This marks Sierra Space's first major contract with the SDA and its first significant deal to build satellites for the U.S. military.
- The satellites are expected to be launched no later than April 2027.
