SICT Launches Stabilization and Reinforcement Phase on TolucaTaxco Highway Settlement

The project is on track for a November 2025 handover following the rollout of stabilization and reinforcement measures this month.

Overview

  • Engineers have begun terraplén step filling and deep inclusion drilling to stabilize the embankment at km 38+200.
  • Preliminary soil studies by specialized SICT directorates measured a 54-meter-long, 12-meter-wide slip with up to 1.50-meter-deep settlements.
  • Crews are erecting a 61-pile reinforced concrete retaining wall connected by a capping beam to secure slope integrity.
  • Two 1.5-meter-diameter drainage structures have been installed upstream and downstream to improve stormwater management.
  • A provisional 5-centimeter hot-mix asphalt surface with barriers and signage, placed in February, continues to support safe traffic flow.
