Overview
- Local works this week are already disrupting commuters: Frankfurt is rerouting five tram lines for Friedensbrücke track and switch works from October 5 to October 12 and will run replacement buses for parts of the weekend.
- In northern Germany, the Ahrensburg–Hamburg regional line remains closed with rail replacement buses until October 19 and several ICE services via Rostock will not call at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof until the December timetable change.
- A Paartalbahn track deformation between Schrobenhausen and Ingolstadt forced an immediate closure and DB Infrago extended the Schienenersatzverkehr with buses through October 9.
- Deutsche Bahn has postponed the Lehrte–Berlin high-speed reopening and will close the route for about 14 months to the end of December 2027 because the parallel Lehrter Stammbahn was not electrified on time, producing detours that nearly double journey times and sparking local protests.
- Lawmakers will consider next steps for a proposed 109 km Hannover–Hamburg new line with an estimated cost of €8.8 billion when the Bundestag debates the project on Thursday, a decision that would allow further planning but not immediate construction.
