Short-Circuit on São Paulo's Linha 12 Forces Single-Track Operation

Emergency buses are serving the affected section during repairs by maintenance teams and there is no estimated time for full restoration.

Overview

  • CPTM identified a short-circuit in an overhead power pole at 6:53 on Tuesday between Calmon Viana and Itaim Paulista and attributed the outage to that fault.
  • To allow repairs the operator put the section on single-track, suspended service between Jardim Romano and Calmon Viana, and slowed trains between Brás and Jardim Romano.
  • CPTM carried out a transbordo to remove passengers from a stalled train and activated the PAESE bus plan to move riders between Itaim Paulista and Calmon Viana.
  • Passengers reported long delays and crowded trains, with some trips taking about 1 hour 30 minutes instead of the usual 35–40 minutes and images showing people walking along the tracks to exit trains.
  • The line has shown similar aerial-power problems before and the disruption adds to an ongoing scrutiny of regional rail reliability as maintenance teams work to restore normal operation.
