  • Shorewood police were called July 8 to an assisted living facility after a 911 tip that caregiver Maryln Villalobos was hiding stolen items in a bathroom.
  • Officers found the 54-year-old Villalobos trying to flush jewelry down a toilet and recovered several pieces as evidence.
  • After her arrest at the facility, Villalobos again attempted to dispose of stolen cash by flushing it at the police station, prompting officers to retrieve the bills.
  • She was booked on charges of financial exploitation of the elderly, residential burglary, burglary, theft and obstructing a peace officer.
  • Villalobos is currently detained at the Will County Adult Detention Facility as she awaits a pretrial release hearing.
