Overview
- Police say the case began on 19 October when Jaish-e-Mohammed posters appeared in Srinagar’s Nowgam, with CCTV leads resulting in three arrests that pointed to cleric Irfan Ahmad Wagay.
- Irfan is in custody and, according to police, confessed to radicalising Dr Muzammil and to direct contact with Pakistan-based handler Umar Bin Khattab through a Telegram channel.
- A joint Jammu & Kashmir–Haryana operation on 10 November led to the arrests of doctors Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie in Faridabad and Aadil Rather in Saharanpur, along with the seizure of about 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate and other chemicals plus weapons in Faridabad.
- Authorities describe an urban support network tied to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind that targeted professionals and used religious messaging and social media for recruitment, fundraising and logistics.
- Police say an associate discarded a hidden firearm after Muzammil’s arrest, which was later recovered, and the multi-state probe into interstate and transnational links remains active.
