Shoigu Arrives in Hanoi for Security Talks With Vietnam’s Top Leadership

Meetings on Dec. 9–10 will cover military-technical ties, law-enforcement cooperation and coordination in EAEU-, ASEAN- and BRICS-related formats.

  • Sergey Shoigu is leading a Russian interagency delegation that landed in Hanoi for a two-day program of high-level meetings.
  • He was received at the airport by Russian Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko and senior officials from Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.
  • Planned talks include sessions with Communist Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Public Security Minister Luong Tam Quang and Defense Minister Phan Van Giang.
  • The agenda spans regional security, trade and scientific-technical ties, plus cooperation against narcotics trafficking, organized crime and extremism, including work between financial intelligence units, the Interior Ministry, the Justice Ministry and Rosgvardiya.
  • The delegation will visit defense-industrial sites and lay flowers at the Monument to the Fallen Heroes, with a working stop in Laos expected later this week.
