Shivakumar Urges Bengaluru Employers to Grant Three Days’ Paid Leave for Bihari Workers to Vote

The appeal seeks to let migrant voters travel home for Bihar’s Nov. 6 and 11 assembly polls.

Overview

  • In an open letter, the Karnataka deputy chief minister asked companies, contractors, hotels, builders, shopkeepers and other establishments across the state to offer at least three days of paid leave to Bihar-origin employees.
  • He said large numbers of Bihari workers contribute to Bengaluru and Karnataka, particularly in construction and services, and pressed employers to support their participation in the election.
  • Addressing community members, he said he would ask CREDAI and contractors to declare a three-day holiday and alleged that lakhs of names were removed from Bihar’s voter rolls.
  • Days earlier, he met the Karnataka Bihar Association in North Bengaluru and told attendees he would be happier if they voted for the Mahagathbandhan alliance.
  • He also announced a Karnataka government plan to allocate land to the Karnataka Bihar Association as a gesture of appreciation for the community’s contribution.
