Overview
- The inaugural ceremony was held Dec. 3 at the Gloria Kaufmann Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles.
- The Lifetime Achievement honor will be known as the Dance Hall of Fame Shirley MacLaine Lifetime Achievement Award.
- MacLaine said the discipline and lessons of dance are “why I’m still here” and encouraged people to take ballet.
- The first class also included Mikhail Baryshnikov, Misty Copeland and Kenny Ortega, with posthumous recognition for Gene Kelly, Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Alvin Ailey and Stephen “Twitch” Boss.
- Family and peers accepted on behalf of late honorees, including Channing Tatum for Boss, Noah Fosse for Bob Fosse and Patricia Ward Kelly for Gene Kelly.
