Overview
- The Japan Meteorological Agency has recorded about 1,900 earthquakes of shindo 1 or higher around the Tokara Islands since June 21.
- Two shindo 4 tremors struck near Akusekijima on July 11 and another on July 12, each at about 20 km depth and magnitudes of roughly 4.7–4.8.
- A total of 64 residents—49 from Akusekijima and 15 from Kodakarajima—remain evacuated in hotels in Kagoshima City.
- Toshima Village moved its repatriation decision from July 14 to July 17 and set July 18 as the earliest return date pending five days without further shindo 4 quakes.
- With returns ruled out by election day, village officials have opened early voting at the Kagoshima City office for the displaced islanders.
