Shinde Orders Citywide Repairs of Mumbai Flyovers for Completion by February 2026

A new technical quality-control cell under the urban development department will oversee resurfacing across multiple agencies.

Overview

  • Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed immediate repair and resurfacing of all city flyovers now that the monsoon has ended.
  • The scope spans 66 structures: five under MSRDC, 19 maintained by MEPL, and 42 managed by the BMC, with the Atal Setu to be resurfaced as required.
  • Shinde instructed crews to lay new riding surfaces and remove uneven patches to restore smooth and safe travel.
  • A review meeting at Mantralaya included MSRDC MD Anil Kumar Gaikwad, BMC commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, and MMRDA commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee.
  • Reporting notes ongoing handover of certain flyovers to the BMC and cites opposition criticism of road quality, as well as Shinde’s concerns about the Lalbaug flyover.
