Overview
- A review meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde approved relocating the toll plaza to a site near the nursery opposite Versova Bridge, about 2 kilometres from its current location.
- MSRDC has been directed to submit a formal proposal to NHAI, and relocation can begin only after approval from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
- Officials estimate the move will take roughly 1 to 1.5 months, with some reports indicating up to two months, with a target to complete the shift before Diwali.
- The change is intended to ease chronic jams that add 30 to 60 minutes for about 1.5 million commuters in Mira-Bhayandar and Mumbai, increasing fuel use and pollution.
- Small-vehicle toll exemptions at Mumbai entry points remain in effect, heavy vehicles will continue to pay, and shifting the plaza outside city limits is meant to preserve toll-free internal travel for Mira-Bhayandar residents.
