Overview
- Police responded around 11:13–11:15 p.m. Tuesday to a home on the 300 block of State Street in Shillington, Pennsylvania.
- The 53-year-old told officers he had been cleaning a shotgun and left it on a bed before a dog jumped up, causing a round to fire into his lower back.
- Officers found the man conscious on the floor; his son was elsewhere in the home and was not injured, and two other dogs were present.
- He was taken to Reading Hospital, went immediately into surgery, and hospital staff indicated he would need an additional operation on Wednesday or Thursday.
