Overview
- Mikaela Shiffrin led the first run by 1.08 seconds over 19-year-old Lara Colturi after clocking the top splits in three of four sections.
- She gained decisive time in the steep middle of the Levi Black course, with Colturi trimming 0.15 in the final section.
- The second run is scheduled for later Saturday in Finnish Lapland.
- Germany’s Lena Duerr placed third and slalom globe holder Zrinka Ljutic fourth, with only seven racers within two seconds of the lead.
- Shiffrin called the performance “kind of perfect” as she trims her program to slalom and giant slalom, possibly super-G, after last year’s GS crash, and she owns eight wins at Levi.
