Sherratt Quits Cardiff to Become Wales’ Attack Coach Under Tandy

The timing deepens disruption for WRU-owned Cardiff during contentious restructuring talks.

Overview

  • Cardiff confirmed Matt Sherratt’s immediate exit just days before their United Rugby Championship opener against the Lions at Cardiff Arms Park.
  • Assistants Corniel van Zyl, Gethin Jenkins, Jonny Goodridge and Scott Andrews will lead on an interim basis as the club starts a review to appoint a long-term successor.
  • Sherratt previously served as Wales’ interim head coach in the Six Nations and on the Japan tour, where the team ended an 18‑Test losing run.
  • Wales head coach Steve Tandy, who started on September 1, has also added Danny Wilson for lineout and contact duties and has welcomed Sherratt to his staff.
  • The move comes as the WRU, which took ownership of Cardiff in April, consults on a proposal to reduce the four professional teams to two, drawing strong pushback and warnings of possible strike action.
