Overview

  • The assault took place around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 1600 block of Hilton Head Road in unincorporated El Cajon when an unknown man grabbed a 24-year-old jogger from behind and restrained her before sexually battering her.
  • The victim screamed, broke free and fled the scene while the suspect ran off in the opposite direction without being caught.
  • Authorities describe the suspect as a white male in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build and short, shaggy medium-brown hair, last seen wearing a dark top, possible black hat and black flip-flops.
  • The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has launched an active manhunt and urged anyone with information to contact its Sexual Assault Unit or remain anonymous through Crime Stoppers.
  • Because the attack occurred outside city limits, the Sheriff’s Office Sexual Assault Unit is leading the investigation and has expanded its use of community alerts and tip hotlines.
