Overview
- Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives circulated photos of 27 people after two coordinated, mob-like burglaries hit the AutoZone near Atlantic and Olympic boulevards on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9.
- Video and store surveillance show shattered glass, empty shelves, damaged computer screens, scattered merchandise, and investigators say the store’s electrical system was destroyed.
- On-scene reporting and law enforcement bulletins said at least one of the two break-ins began when a suspect smashed the front door and roughly 10 others entered to take merchandise.
- Authorities are reviewing store and cellphone video and have asked the public to contact Detective Luu or Crime Stoppers with tips as they seek arrests and possible links to other weekend break-ins.
- Local business owners have boarded storefronts and called for more patrols after similar takeover-linked looting was reported in Watts, Downey and Long Beach and some nearby cases led to separate arrests.
