Sheriff Identifies Erica and Brian Bevitt in Montara Shooting That Left Two Dead

Investigators describe the case as domestic with no ongoing threat to the community.

  • A large multi-agency presence led to an apparent hours-long standoff, and Auburn-Washburn USD 437 schools entered secure-campus status that was lifted by 1:45 p.m.
  • The scene was cleared by about 1:15 p.m., authorities acknowledged assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol and Shawnee Heights Fire Department, and the investigation remains active.
