Overview

  • Christina Corpus appeared July 15 in San Mateo County Superior Court to answer four civil grand jury counts of misconduct, conflict of interest and retaliation.
  • Corpus asked a judge to remove District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe’s office from the case, citing prosecutorial conflict, with a hearing set for August 13.
  • Sgt. Joe Fava, a key witness in the proceedings, was placed on administrative leave last week and Corpus insists the decision was unrelated to his cooperation with investigators.
  • The accusation is civil only and carries no criminal penalty beyond possible removal from office under Measure A.
  • Voters approved Measure A in March granting the Board of Supervisors power to oust a sheriff for cause and the Board’s June vote to remove Corpus is now under appeal.
