Shelar Orders BMC To Float Gargai Dam Tenders Within Two Months

Expedited Union forest clearances are now the key step to move a 440 MLD supply boost for Mumbai into procurement.

Overview

  • Guardian minister Ashish Shelar held a review meeting with BMC chief Bhushan Gagrani at the civic headquarters to assess the project.
  • Tenders will be issued within two months once the required permissions are in place, according to Shelar’s directive.
  • The proposed Gargai Dam in Palghar is projected to add about 440 million litres per day to the city’s supply.
  • Mumbai currently receives roughly 4,000 MLD against demand near 4,600 MLD, leaving a gap the project aims to narrow.
  • State approvals are secured, but Union forest department clearances remain pending, and Shelar said he has asked Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav to expedite them.
