Shein's BHV Paris Debut Tops 50,000 Visitors Under Heightened French Scrutiny

French authorities are maintaining close scrutiny following a judicial referral over illicit listings.

Overview

  • SGM chief Frédéric Merlin reported more than 50,000 visitors in five days, with an average basket of €45 and nearly 15% continuing to shop elsewhere in the store.
  • He said BHV is considering expanding the capsule with a fuller menswear offer, a children’s area, a broader dress range and more affordable basics.
  • The government has placed Shein under close surveillance, and the Interior Ministry referred the case to the Paris judicial court citing public-order concerns.
  • Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu requested a new status review next week as legal procedures continue.
  • Shein says it removed the illicit products and will strengthen controls, and no suspension of its activity in France has been ordered; several partners, including Odaje, Le Slip Français and Disneyland Paris, distanced themselves from the launch.
