- During a Dec. 28 visit with State of Mexico Governor Delfina Gómez, President Claudia Sheinbaum promoted the 14,000-hectare protected area and contrasted it with the previously planned airport she called inviable.
- New public registrations for sports and recreation open in January, with facilities that include baseball, soccer and American football fields as well as a gym.
- In 2026 the park will run Tuesday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with permanent sports, recreational, cultural and environmental programming.
- Plans include picnic areas, birdwatching lookouts, internal bikeways, a labyrinth, family spaces, new access routes from key points in the Valley of Mexico and internal transport linking the park’s zones.
- The site is an Área Natural Protegida decreed in 2022, recognized by UNESCO as a Demonstrative Site of Ecohydrology, and supported by SEMARNAT’s interinstitutional water program aimed at restoring wetlands for millions in the region.
