Sheinbaum Sends Senate Shortlists for New Telecom and Antitrust Regulators, Triggering 30-Day Review

The Senate faces a firm deadline that will decide when the new telecom commission can replace the IFT.

Overview

  • The 30-day natural period for Senate ratification began upon receipt of the proposals, and the CRT cannot exercise full authority until its five-member plenary is installed.
  • Proposed commissioners for the new Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones are Ledénika Mckensie Méndez González, María de las Mercedes Olivares Tresgallo, Adán Salazar Garibay, Tania Villa Trápala, and Norma Solano Rodríguez.
  • Nominees for the Comisión Nacional Antimonopolio are Andrea Marván Saltiel, Ana María Reséndiz Mora, Óscar Alejandro Gómez Romero, Ricardo Salgado Perrilliat, and Haydee Soledad Aragón Martínez.
  • Under the new law, the CRT will operate as a decentralized body within the ATDT and will replace the IFT once constituted, with the transition already strained by indemnity disputes and temporary rehiring at the legacy regulator.
  • Appointments will be staggered by the Executive, with the commission president serving a three-year term renewable once and other commissioners serving seven-year terms.
