Overview
- The Senate read the president’s submissions and referred the CRT slate to the Radio, Television and Cinematography Committee and the CNA slate to the Economy Committee.
- Nominees to the Commission Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones are Ledénika Mackensie Méndez González, María de las Mercedes Olivares Tresgallo, Adán Salazar Garibay, Tania Villa Trápala and Norma Solano Rodríguez.
- Nominees to the Comisión Nacional Antimonopolio are Andrea Marván Saltiel, Ana María Reséndiz Mora, Óscar Alejandro Gómez Romero, Ricardo Salgado Perrilliat and Haydeé Soledad Aragón Martínez.
- Under the new telecoms law, commissioners are assigned staggered terms ranging from three to seven years, and the CRT will sit within the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency with powers over spectrum, orbital resources, broadcasting and networks.
- Both bodies remain largely dormant until the Senate ratifies the slates, while the outgoing IFT faces indemnification disputes and has rehired some previously laid-off staff on temporary contracts to keep regulatory functions running.
