Overview
- President Claudia Sheinbaum inaugurated and opened the Rizo de Oro bridge on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at a ceremony in La Concordia attended by Chiapas officials.
- The structure totals about two kilometres including approaches, has a 408-metre main span with two traffic lanes, and is described by authorities as Mexico’s first mixed steel-and-concrete arch bridge.
- The Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes reported the project cost 2,308 million pesos with 1,086 million pesos spent under the current federal administration.
- Officials said construction created about 5,715 jobs, used over 5,000 tonnes of steel, and the bridge passed static and dynamic load tests conducted with UNAM’s Institute of Engineering and the Instituto Mexicano del Transporte.
- Authorities estimate the link will benefit roughly 300,000 people across 10 municipalities by cutting some trips by up to two and a half hours, improving access to health, schools and markets, and locals continue to ask for an additional crossing at Boquerón to restore pre-dam connections.
