Sheetal Devi, 18, Makes India’s Able-Bodied Junior Archery Team for Asia Cup Stage 3

Her selection makes her the first para-athlete picked for an Indian able-bodied international archery squad.

Overview

  • Competing under identical conditions with more than 60 archers at the four-day Sonipat trials, she finished third in the women’s compound with 11.75 final points.
  • She posted 703 in qualification (352+351), matching top qualifier Tejal Salve, with Vaidehi Jadhav second in the final standings.
  • The Asia Cup Stage 3 is scheduled in Jeddah from December 10–15, with Sheetal joining Salve and Jadhav on India’s junior women’s compound team.
  • Born without arms, she shoots with her feet and enters the able-bodied field after a Paris 2024 Paralympic mixed-team bronze and a 2025 para world title.
  • After a World Archery rule change barring heel contact with the bow, she retrained to use only the toe/front of her foot under coach Gaurav Sharma, as the federation weighs a date clash with the Youth Para Asian Games.
