Overview
- Shedd Aquarium on Nov. 20 publicly introduced Alface, a Linné’s two-toed sloth, as its newest resident.
- Alface was born at the Dallas Zoo in 2023 under the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan.
- She arrived in Chicago in September and is currently training and bonding with caretakers behind the scenes.
- Staff plan to place her in the aquarium’s Amazon Rainforest exhibit once they determine she is ready for public viewing.
- She will be used to connect visitors with Amazon wildlife and raise awareness of threats such as deforestation; her name means “lettuce,” the first solid food she ate.
