Sheba, Mount Sinai and NVIDIA Launch Three-Year Push to Build a Genomic LLM

Teams are starting platform work to train a genomic foundation model with clinical data on NVIDIA GPUs.

Overview

  • ARC Innovation at Sheba and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to apply large language model techniques to genomic research.
  • The project aims to decipher the largely uncharacterized noncoding regions of the genome to inform prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Sheba and Mount Sinai will contribute extensive genomic datasets and clinical and AI expertise, while NVIDIA supplies computational infrastructure, software, and applied AI support.
  • The effort is anchored in Mount Sinai’s Million Health Discoveries Program and co-led by ARC’s AI Center with Mount Sinai’s Charles Bronfman Institute and Windreich Department.
  • Joint teams have begun building a shared research platform with multi-year investments committed, with initial work targeting complex diseases and no scientific findings reported yet.
