Overview

• On May 27, Kemp pleaded guilty to second-degree assault after prosecutors amended original first-degree assault and drive-by shooting charges as part of a plea agreement.
• He tracked a stolen iPhone to the Tacoma Mall following a March 2023 break-in of his truck, confronted two men in a Toyota 4Runner and returned fire saying he acted in self-defense.
• The shooting damaged the 4Runner and a second vehicle but left no injuries, and the two occupants are currently jailed on unrelated charges.
• Kemp is due back in court on August 22, 2025, when prosecutors will urge a nine-month jail term, one year of community custody and restitution payments.
