Overview
- Deputy Elijah Ming, a nine-year veteran of the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office, was shot and later died on July 26 while responding to a civil standby domestic violence call in Kansas City, Kansas.
- 38-year-old Shawn Harris opened fire on first responders from inside the residence and was wounded in an exchange of gunfire before barricading himself for about an hour.
- Harris was released from medical care and arrested on a capital murder charge for killing a law enforcement officer and is being held without bond in the Johnson County Jail.
