Sharp Rise in Antisemitic Acts in Belgium and France Since Israel-Hamas War

Reports of antisemitic acts, including online hate messages and physical assaults, have surged in the wake of the conflict.

Antisemitic acts in Belgium and France have risen sharply since the Israel-Hamas war began.
In Belgium, 91 reports related to the conflict were received between Oct. 7 and Dec. 7, 2023, compared to 57 reports for the whole of 2022.
In France, 1,676 antisemitic acts were reported in 2023, compared to 436 the previous year.
Most of the antisemitic acts involved hate messages, more than half of them online, and there were also comments made in public areas.
The report cited cases of beatings, graffiti and the desecration of dozens of graves in the Jewish section of a cemetery close to the city of Charleroi.
