Sharp Nurses End Three-Day Thanksgiving Strike as December Talks Set

Mediation will restart talks after Sharp proposed 70 hours of sick leave plus four years of guaranteed raises.

Overview

  • Workers returned to their posts at 7 a.m. Saturday after picketing at Grossmont, Chula Vista and Kearny Mesa.
  • Roughly 5,700 registered nurses and 127 other professionals took part, represented by SPNN, an affiliate of UNAC/UHCP.
  • Nurses have bargained without a contract since July, seeking staffing safeguards, guaranteed sick leave and retention measures.
  • Sharp says its latest offer includes 70 hours of frontloaded sick leave with carryover and guaranteed raises of 5%, 4%, 3.75% and 3.5% over four years, noting average RN pay above $77 per hour.
  • Negotiations will resume under a mediator in December, with the timeline variously reported as mid-December or Dec. 10–11.
