Overview

  • The Sharks selected 18-year-old Michael Misa with the second overall pick at Friday’s NHL Draft held in a decentralized format at Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater.
  • Misa totaled 134 points and 62 goals for the Saginaw Spirit in the OHL, the best under-18 offensive season since 2007, and said he aims to play in the NHL next fall.
  • General manager Mike Grier praised Misa’s all-around play, calling his OHL performance a perfect complement to a top-six group featuring Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith and William Eklund.
  • San Jose has now used four top-seven picks since 2021, cementing a rebuild strategy centered on high-end prospects following Celebrini (2024), Smith (2023) and Eklund (2021).
  • The NHL’s new decentralized draft format relocated team executives off the main stage while retaining a televised ceremony at the Peacock Theater.
