Overview
- Tayane Dalazen, 36, was bitten on the leg while snorkeling on Jan. 9 in shallow water near the Fishermen’s Association at Porto de Santo Antônio.
- A local guide known as Nego Noronha intervened to free her, and she left the water with assistance before going to Hospital São Lucas.
- The hospital reported a superficial wound and discharged her after treatment that included two stitches, a tetanus vaccine and antibiotics.
- Hospital São Lucas notified environmental surveillance, the Fire Department and the Shark Incidents Monitoring Committee, and ICMBio was informed.
- ICMBio’s Mário Douglas said there were two bites in two weeks and four in three months, and the agency is investigating and considering interdiction of the area.
