Sharjah Assigns Dedicated Lanes for Motorbikes, Buses and Trucks From Nov. 1

Compliance will be policed by 24/7 radars with fines set by federal law.

Overview

  • Sharjah Police will designate specific lanes for motorcycles, heavy vehicles and buses across major and secondary roads starting November 1.
  • The far-right lane will be reserved for heavy vehicles and buses under the new traffic plan.
  • Motorcycles may use the two rightmost lanes on four-lane roads, the middle or right lane on three-lane roads, and only the right lane on two-lane roads.
  • Enforcement will rely on round-the-clock radar monitoring and smart cameras deployed across the emirate.
  • Penalties follow federal law, including Dh1,500 and 12 points for heavy vehicles that ignore mandatory routes (Article 8) and Dh500 for failing to obey traffic signs or instructions (Article 70), aligning Sharjah with similar rules in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ajman.
